Nanjing Customs cracked a luxury smuggling case worth 154 million yuan.
Xinhua News Agency, Nanjing, June 16 (Reporter Liu Weiwei) Nanjing Customs announced on the 16th that it had recently launched a centralized operation in Nanjing, Changzhou, Suzhou, Huai ‘an, Ningbo, Jiaxing and other places, and destroyed more than 20 smuggling consignors’ gangs, and seized more than 10,000 smuggled luxury bags, branded clothes and high-end watches on the spot, with a total case value of about 154 million yuan.
In February 2021, Jiangyin Customs Anti-smuggling Branch of Nanjing Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau received a clue that Zhang, a native of Jiangyin, was suspected of hiring water passengers to smuggle luxury goods. Through verification, the anti-smuggling personnel initially determined that the gang headed by Zhang and Cheng was suspected of major smuggling. In March 2021, anti-smuggling personnel went to Jiangyin, Zhangjiagang, Liaocheng, Shandong and other places, arrested three suspects, including Zhang, and seized 1,870 smuggled luxury goods and branded clothing on the spot, with a case value of 4.54 million yuan; At the same time, the anti-smuggling personnel persuaded the suspect who was located outside the country at the time of the incident to return.
After investigation, since 2018, the smuggling gang has contacted overseas water passenger gangs to smuggle luxury bags, clothes and shoes into the country by means of water passengers, and then sold them in physical stores, online stores, WeChat and other platforms for illegal profit.
At present, relevant cases are under further investigation.
